The world is still talking about it, and we can’t stop! Latino artist Bad Bunny made history after his unforgettable halftime show performance in early February. His 13-minute performance, all in Spanish, truly exemplified the culture, history, and journey of Bad Bunny and his homeland into a huge celebration. It felt like a party, filled with salsa dancing, reggaeton, and even a wedding! The night was truly special, featuring two special guests and good friends of the artist, Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. His performance received over 128.2 million views, with over 4 billion streams on social media within 24 hours, making his performance one of the most watched performances of all time. His message of love instead of hate was truly expressed throughout his performance, including special scenes of Puerto Rican family culture. It was a night we will never forget.
“Bad Bunny’s halftime show was very inspirational and moving,” said sophomore Dylan Diamond.
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as “Bad Bunny” was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, starting his musical journey by posting his songs on SoundCloud, a streaming website where songwriters would upload their songs and receive feedback. Meanwhile, during the day he was a bagger at a local supermarket, where he would come up with lyrics in his head, and then at night he would combine his lyrics with different rhythms in his home recording studio.
In late September 2025, Bad Bunny was released as the headliner for the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show. Many were curious about what his performance was going to entail, primarily because he is an only Spanish-language singer. After receiving many questions after the big release, the NFL, National Football League, wrote in a statement stating they chose the artist because they wanted to connect with the younger generation, expanding its audience to learn and experience other cultures. The artist has gained a lot of popularity from the younger generations, as well as the Latino community in the last few years, creating a well-known name for himself.
“Even if you didn’t understand the language, you could understand the message of love and unity,” said Foreign language teacher Señora Gonzalez.
Just a week before his halftime show performance, Bad Bunny won “Album of the Year” for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, becoming the first artist to win this award with a fully-Spanish language album. In his speech he stated a powerful message, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” which he later featured on the screen during his performance. Bad Bunny is known for his philanthropy work and activism, as well as an ally for the LGBTQ+ community.
“I think he 100% lived up to the expectation of putting on a good show and entertaining those in the stadium as well as watching from home,” said junior Andrew Blake.
Throughout his performance, he had two special guests, artists Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. It was always a dream of Bad Bunny to perform on the same stage with Lady Gaga, later mentioning his great admiration for her work and success. The duo was spotted hanging out at the Grammy Awards just a week before the halftime show. Puerto Rican native Ricky Martin was also featured in the show, honoring their homeland and their musical journeys. Martin symbolized a generational torch, from one Puerto Rican singer to the next, singing the song “Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii,” a song that represents Puerto Rico’s culture and pride.
“You don’t have to understand music, you could just feel it,” said Foreign Language teacher Señora Austin.
The artist featured many of his best hits throughout his performance, including “Tití Me Preguntó,” “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS,” “BAILE INoLVIDABLE,” and “NUEVAYoL.” It wasn’t long before Bad Bunny received nearly 100 million streams after his performance, as Spotify and Apple Music streams went through the roof.
“Ten years ago he was bagging groceries, and now he is on one of the biggest stages in the world,” said Señora Gonzalez. In just one decade, Bad Bunny has become one of the world’s top artists in history, and so has his halftime show performance, up there with Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, and even Michael Jackson. Bad Bunny’s halftime show is something that will be put down in history. But what Bad Bunny hopes people take away from his performance is not just the good music, but the message of love, unity, and kindness. Because the halftime show is more than just a musical performance, it is a symbol of bringing people together, and that was done through something we all could enjoy, which is music.
