Golden Globes & Grammy Awards – January Edition 2025

Lights…camera…ACTION!  As we look back at the Golden Globes, there was a lot of history made.  The night started off with stand up Comedian Nikki Glaser, as she went around the room cracking jokes, warming up the crowd for a night of film, cheers, and lots of entertainment.  Lots of awards were given out, like Best Motion Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Actress and many more.  But what was more important, was not just the trophy brought home, but the memories that were made that night, and the impact those films sent to people all around the world.

The movie, Emilia Peréz, won the most awards of the evening, bringing home six.  Selena Gomez, a double nominee for the movie and the television show Only Murders in the Building was there with new fiancé Benny Blanco.  But they were not the only ones celebrating an engagement, as Zendaya came in wearing a long, beautiful orange dress with an engagement ring!  The singer stated in an interview that newly fiancé Tom Holland popped the question in between Christmas and New Year’s.  Everyone is so excited to see the couple take their next steps into marriage.  Aren’t they such a cute couple?

“I was floored by Zendaya’s dress and I thought she looked like a princess.  Also I loved the engagement ring on her finger,” said freshman Rowan Danow.

The television series Shogun was also awarded four Golden Globes, including Best Drama Series.  Other films were awarded throughout the night, Flow for Best Motion Picture – Animated, Baby Reindeer for Best Television Limited Series, and The Brutalist, a historic story about a Holocaust Survivor who immigrated to America to live a better life.  An inspiring story, winning some of the biggest awards of the night like Best Director and Best Motion Picture – Drama.

But there were some upsets that took place that evening, one being for the box officing film that brought in 164.2 million dollars its opening weekend, Wicked.  It was nominated for four awards, and everyone believed it was going to bring home all of them, but instead they only won one award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.  Actresses Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who played the roles of Elphaba and Glenda in the movie were at the award ceremony, stunning the crowd with their beautiful dresses.  They already dropped their exciting announcement at the end of the year, letting their fans know that part two of the movie will be coming out in November of 2025.  We cannot wait to see it!

Another upset of the night was for the hit television show Nobody Wants This, with Adam Brody and Kristen Bell for not taking home any awards.  Fans were crushed and upset about the results.  But, Netflix just released that the second season of the television series will be coming out late 2025.

“I was very surprised that Wicked did not receive more awards at the Golden Globes.  I know a lot of people were in shock about the results after how many nominations they received for their work,” said senior Tessa Rudegeair.

But there was also a beautiful, heartfelt moment on the stage that night, as Demi Moore went up to accept her first Golden Globe for her role as Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture for The Substance.  As she stood up on stage, she thanked family, colleagues, and fans who have been with her since the beginning, and told everyone in the audience that she does this [acting] so people can see the messages she wants to put out into the world, hoping it can inspire others.

There were some other celebrities that were at the awards, Nicole Kidman, who won her 20th Golden Globe for her film Babygirl, Timothée Chalamet for his role in A Complete Unknown, and Glen Powell who did not bring any awards home that evening, a shock to so many.

“I loved the outfits the celebrities wore to the Golden Globes, they all were so pretty and elegant.  I especially liked Melissa McCarthy’s pink dress, with all the ruffles,” said junior Amanda Mellow.

There will be many exciting films that are going to be released this year, including Michael played by the late singer’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, Freakier Friday with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, and many more to come. It was truly an amazing night, filled with so much excitement and unknowns.  As the Golden Globes come to an end, the Grammys are just around the corner, and fans are curious as to who will be taking home the biggest awards of the night, for Album of the Year and Record of the Year.  People are wondering who it will be, having so many artists who have dominated the music industry, like Sabrina Carpenter for Short n’ Sweet, Beyoncé for Cowboy Carter, and of course Taylor Swift for The Tortured Poets Department.  We are all so excited to see what 2025 will bring for us, in film, entertainment, music, and much more!
