"Extra, Extra, Read All About It" - Malcolm Todd

The Final Season of TSITP Releases Soon – June Edition 2025

Summer is just around the corner and so is the final season of the television series, The Summer I Turned Pretty.  The show is based on the novel trilogy written and produced by Jenny Han, taking place in a fictional town called Cousins Beach, where the main character Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung), visits every summer and stays at a family friends’ beach house.  The storyline involves the complicated love triangle between the two brothers of the other family in the house, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) with Belly.  Conrad and Jeremiah are not only Belly’s best friends, but are like brothers to her.  Since childhood, Belly has been infatuated with Conrad, but her attraction changes back and forth from Conrad to Jeremiah throughout the series.  The show reveals how the characters navigate through their family dynamics, friendships, and relationships.  This final season is predicted to be action packed, with a surprise ending that could be different from the novels and fans are ecstatic.

“I think that a new family will move to their summer town and there will be two girls that are the same ages as both Conrad and Jeremiah, which will cause tensions between them again,” said junior Amanda Mellow.

The show debuted in 2022, and within the first few episodes fans supported different relationships for the main characters, either supporting “Team Jeremiah” or “Team Conrad.”  The show gained popularity by the end of the first season, when Belly chose to date Conrad after a season of both brothers trying to win her affection.  It became a massive success and fans loved the storyline.

The second season brought many more surprises, as the main characters Belly and Conrad broke up.  The plot thickened when their summer house was put on the market to be sold by Conrad and Jeremiah’s aunt Julia, after the shocking death of Susannah, Conrad and Jeremiah’s mother and Belly’s mother’s best friend.  The characters end up saving the house at the end of the season, and Belly and Jeremiah start a new relationship together after a season of awkward tension between Belly and both brothers.  Another romance also captured the hearts of fans in season two, with Belly’s brother Stephen (Sean Kaufman) starting a relationship with Belly’s best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer).

“I love The Summer I Turned Pretty because there are so many plot twists with the characters, and I am curious to see who Belly will pick in the final season.  I think Belly will go back to Conrad and they will stay together forever,” said sophomore Isabella Imperiale.

For this upcoming final season, the fans do not know what to expect.  There are multiple theories on how the show could end.  Most fans believe Belly will end up with Conrad following the   book storyline, as the first two seasons paralleled the first two books.  However, Han has said in the past that the show may end differently than the novels, and she recently stated that the final season will end with an unexpected twist.

The show has received much attention since the teaser was released at the beginning of this year.  The teaser showed clips of all the characters sitting on the beach together, laughing and enjoying summer. It also revealed a time jump, with Belly at college with her now-boyfriend Jeremiah.

The creator of the show, Jenny Han, is a huge Taylor Swift fan.  In every trailer and teaser, she features Swift’s music.  The teaser for the final season opened with the song “Daylight,” from Swift’s Lover album, but just as the teaser was coming to an end, Conrad walked into the frame, and the song faded into “Red,” from Swift’s album Red. Fans believe this may imply a return to a relationship between Conrad and Belly. Swift’s music is also featured throughout the series, along with other popular artists such as Lana Del Rey and Tyler, The Creator contributing to a soundtrack that fans enjoy and enhances the characters’ different emotions and storylines.

“I enjoy watching The Summer I Turned Pretty because it gives you a summer feel, being at the beach with your family and friends, and enjoying your time off from school.  I am curious to see what will happen during the final season,” said senior Tessa Rudegeair.

Fans are eager to find out what will happen in the final season of the series.  Audiences have been waiting for almost two years and are excited for the twists and turns of the characters’ storylines.  The release date of the final season is July 16, and will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.  While this may be the final season of the show, the characters will live on through the original novels, and a potential spin-off hinted at by Prime Video executives.
