Dancer, influencer, song – writer, performer, Tate Mcrae is unstoppable, and with her new album “So Close to What” coming out this month, and her world tour, “Miss Possessive” just around the corner, fans are ecstatic to hear what Mcrae shares with the world. She started performing as a competitive dancer at only eight years old, winning lots of dance awards and competing on famous stages like The Dance Awards and later on the television show So You Think You Can Dance. She was even a backup dancer for Justin Bieber’s “Purpose World Tour.” While she was dancing, she was also writing music, but just for fun. This inspired her to create her own Youtube channel, where she would post all of her songs. This gained her a lot of popularity, already having some of it from the show. She would later release her first single, “One Day” in 2017, starting her career as a song-writer.
She started to release more singles like “you broke me first” and “she’s all i wanna be,” hitting the pop charts as a teen artist before releasing the album that made her name in 2023. “Think Later,” where her most popular song, “Greedy” would receive 1.2 billion streams year to date. She would later go on her first world tour with this album, gaining more popularity along the way. She was then invited to perform on talk shows, like The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“Tate Mcrae has always made great music and I love to listen to her songs in the car. She has a great voice and I really hope I get to see her when she comes to Madison Square Garden in the fall,” said junior Amanda Mellow.
In Nov. 2024, Mcrae took to social media to announce her fifth tour, saying how this is “Another dream come true” for her. With the start of the tour just around the corner, she has been teasing some of her new singles that will be performed, getting her fans excited for her show. Some of the songs that have been released are “2 Hands,” “Sports Car” and “It’s ok I’m ok.” She will be going all over the globe, starting in South America, spending the summer in Europe, and ending in North America.
Fans are also very excited to see the dancing that will be performed during her shows, because of her amazing dance abilities and skills when she was younger. The singer has been posting on Instagram the moves to some of her songs she released, asking her fans to try the dances and re – post them on social media tagging her account. She is always finding ways to introduce more people to dance, which is so great!
Mcrae has performed at many music events, some to say the highest stages, including Lollapalooza and iHeart Radio’s Jingle Ball.
“Tate McRae is an extremely talented artist. She is an incredible dancer and has a great voice. I hope I am lucky enough to see her one day,” said freshman Rowan Danow.
One of Mcrae’s favorite things to do when she is not touring or making music is spending time with family and friends. The singer is very close with her family and visits them whenever she gets a free chance. She has also shared with the world another special person in her life, her boyfriend, award winning singer – songwriter The Kid Laroi. They have been going to music events like the Video Music Awards and the Grammy’s together, sports games, and much more. Fans hope to see the singer on tour with Mcrae, after having a few pop – up surprise duet performances at her concerts in the past.
Singer Olivia Rodrigo and Mcrae have been good friends for a long time as well, and are always showing up at events for one another, sharing in an interview with US Weekly, “We’re all supporting each other and want to go to each other’s concerts and want to listen to each other’s music.” Mcrae has even starred in Rodrigo’s music video, “bad idea, right?” They enjoy spending time with each other and have been seen going on vacation with their partners and their friends. Their friendship is so strong and it is so great to see artists supporting each other.
“My favorite song of hers is Greedy. I love to listen to her music on the radio or just out with my friends. I am very excited to listen to her new album coming up,” said senior Tessa Rudegeair. Fans are beaming with joy and excitement for her tour to start, and make sure to see her when she comes to Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sep. 3 and 4, and to pre-save her new album coming out this month!
