"Mirrorball" - Taylor Swift

The first three episodes of TSITP was released, let’s talk about it!

It has only been two weeks since the first three episodes of the television series, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has been released, and boy, there is a lot to uncover! There were breakups, makeups, engagements, and lots of fights, and we are only into the third episode! There is a lot to talk about, so let’s get into it!

In this article I will be giving a brief overview of what has happened so far during this final season, including some notes about previous seasons that will apply to what is happening now. Isabel “Belly” Conklin and Jeremiah Fisher are planning on getting married, after they had an unexpected engagement at the end of episode two. Belly’s brother, Steven, is recovering after he almost died in a horrifying car accident, and is trying to figure out his relationship status with ex-girlfriend, and Belly’s best friend, Taylor. Taylor, who has been eyeing Belly’s brother for many years, was also in the car with Steven right before the accident, and is still trying to process the idea of Steven almost not making it, and is struggling with her mom to pay the bills. Jeremiah’s older brother Conrad was just fired from a medical internship at one of the highest hospitals in the country, and is trying to figure out what to do now. Conrad and Belly have a deep history, as Belly used to have a huge crush on Conrad since forever. She had always dreamed of being with him, and after two boyfriends (first Cam Cameron, then Jeremiah) Conrad became hers. They broke up at her Prom right before Jeremiah and Conrad’s mother, Susannah, passed away from Cancer. Belly and Steven’s mother, Laurel, and Susannah met during college, and became best friends ever since. Every summer Belly and her family would come to the Fisher’s beach house in a small beach town called “Cousins Beach” where they would spend every summer together. At the end of season two, Belly declares her love for Jeremiah, and they end up together, sending Conrad back to Stanford where he will stay for the next four years before returning for their mom’s memorial. But Conrad still misses Belly, and thinks about her often. Belly and Jeremiah are hoping to get married at Cousins this summer, before Belly goes on her first semester abroad trip to Paris, and Jeremiah finishes another semester as a “Super Senior” at Finch College, where both Belly and Jeremiah attend, after not checking his email.

In the past three episodes, there was a lot of drama that became stirred, and ended up breaking up Belly and Jeremiah for a hot second. Right before Spring Break, Jeremiah and Belly got into a horrible fight. Right before he left for Cabo, he suggested that they should “take a break.” To Belly, it was that they would both take time to cool off, but were still together. Jeremiah meant it as they would break up, and be single. While Jeremiah was in Cabo, he got drunk and cheated with another girl, and Belly found out. They ended up breaking up, but getting back together a few days later, including Jeremiah’s proposal to Belly. I have been analyzing everything that has been going on between the characters all throughout the seasons, and I think there needs to be better communication between everyone involved. After what happened in Cabo, I think everything could have been resolved if there was a better discussion between Jeremiah and Belly before he left for Spring Break. Belly understood how Jeremiah thought that they were broken up, but still not processing how he could move on so quickly. Jeremiah replied with how numb he felt during the trip, and how nothing he felt actually mattered to him, and if he could go back, he would change everything.

As episode four comes out this Wednesday, let’s keep in mind that this is a television show. It has fake characters with fake stories. There should be no hate to others based on how they feel or any opinions people might have. I am very excited and curious to see what the next few episodes will give us, and I look forward to more recaps soon!
